Prior to the operation you will meet with Dr. Judge to discuss what your aesthetic goal is and what your primary concern areas are. Performed under general anesthesia with a licensed anesthetist overseeing the procedure, this outpatient surgery can take anywhere from 4 to 6 hours. All of Dr. Judge’s face and neck lift surgeries are performed at a local outpatient surgery center in San Francisco except for those patients who wish to be admitted to a hospital overnight.
During the operation Dr. Judge will lift your tissues, redistribute fat to the right places, trim excess skin, and then tighten and smooth the remaining skin over the underlying tissues. Typically the incisions are hidden near the hairline for reduced visibility post-operation. This reduces the common signs of aging such as creases beside the nose and mouth, a slacking jaw line, sagging jowls, and fat deposits around the neck.*
A face and neck lift can be performed in tandem with other procedures such as a brow lift or eyelid surgery. Dr. Judge will discuss the best way to achieve your desired aesthetic during your consultation.
There will be postoperative discomfort, but this is typically managed with oral pain killers and will subside after a few days. Dr. Judge will review your procedure plan and post care instructions during your consultation, however, patients can typically return to work within 10 to 14 days, and swelling will typically subside within a week.* Strenuous activity should be avoided for at least 4-6 weeks.
It is advised that a capable adult stay with the patient for a 24-hour period following the surgery to monitor recovery. Scars from the procedure will naturally fade beginning a few months after the procedure and cosmetic concealers can be used to camouflage any visible scarring as healing continues.*
